Quick Visual

This was a small sketch I did for someone doing graphics for Hallmark as a visual for their tables they set up throughout some grocery store chains around Christmas time.

Paintings

I painted this for my friend Shayna's Bat Mitzvah.  It's textured with torn tissue paper, modge podge, acrylic paint, then lacquered with a high gloss. Small glitter tiles and mirrors are added on top.

A 24x36" canvas textured with gel using a v-notched trowel, acrylic paint, and heavily lacquered

A textured trilogy with branches carved into the plaster.  Acrylic paint and small glass beads added like wet drops of dew on the flower and branches.  This painting was a gift for our dear friends that lost their precious boy an hour after birth.  The branches represent them and the flower is for Jake.

Jeff Hanson Video Launch!

Check out my good friend Jeff Hanson and the amazing things he's doing to make a better world for all!

Click here to see the video I created to better tell his story.

Jeff believes every act of kindness helps create kinder communities, more compassionate nations, and a better world for all... even one painting at a time.

Holiday Decor

I made this wreath by using a plain flocked base and adding different ornaments and floral embellishments with wire

During Christmas, I displayed some red, green, and black books between my lovely Johnathan Adler Dachshund bookends instead of my usual orange books during the rest of the year!

Bedroom Closets

Our bedroom had no closet space whatsoever so we built our own!  We built a His and a Hers closet on either side of the window along one wall, and placed a re-purposed dresser in between.

There's Matt working hard!

We used bi-fold doors so we could get a maximum opening width to access all of our clothes without having big doors swing out into our bed and get in our way.

Messy!

Organized!

Guest Room & Studio

This is our guest room, but is mostly used as my husband's office and display for historical trinkets!

My husband had the framed map already so I had shelves made to surround it on the wall.  I used the Rakks system, and Sawdust Inc. in KCMO made the shelves laminated with a zebrawood style Formica.

The old carpet was removed in my studio and replaced with the same engineered wood throughout the living space.

The cube bookshelf against the orange accent wall is from West Elm, my desk is actually a rolling console table from cb2 along with the two rolling file cabinets.  I had sheet metal cut from Western Metal in Lousiburg, KS for a magnetic thought-board, and I found the vintage chair from Mission Antique Mall.

During demo... I got really into it!

SHOWER:

We re-tiled the shower and added a shampoo niche' into the wall.  The porcelain tile is from Home Depot [$1.60/sqft!!!] I needed something that would tie the beige existing tub in with the gray tones I was using in the rest of the house; this tile was perfect!

Shower curtain from Crate & Barrel, green towels from cb2, white towels from Target.

That old cabinet above the toilet was just too bulky and impeding on the space, floating shelves from IKEA and towel hooks on the wall were much easier on the eyes while still providing extra storage.

Vanity, sink, splash, mirror, hardware, and lighting from Lowe's

The Living Room

Carpet squares from Flor, Ottomans from Crate & Barrel, Knitted Pouf from cb2, round flokati rug and spine bookcase from West Elm.

Two different kinds of old carpet were replaced with dark-stained engineered hardwood floors.

Our Home Remodel: The Kitchen

[before & after photos]

Carpet was replaced with engineered wood [from Nebraska Furniture Mart], hardware updated [from Home Depot], countertops replaced with Corian in a color much like concrete [Top Master], and the wood skylight surround was painted white to bring more light into the kitchen.

We tore out the traditional platter rack spindles above the upper cabinets as well as the wavy decorative wooden trim above the sink for a straight-lined modern look.  The stainless steel sink would have looked great, but I preferred a heavy-duty white cast iron sink.  The metal dish/utensil racks on the backsplash above the sink and stove are from IKEA.

The washing machine used to be hooked up where the trash cans are now.  We built a new laundry closet into the garage so that we were able to continue the countertops across the whole wall.  Plus, who wants to have their washing machine in their kitchen anyway?!  This gave us space for a recycling area!

My mom and I tiled the backsplash with traditional white subway tile and strips of a mixture of slate and glass 1x1" mosaic.  To modernize the look of the subway tile we used dark gray grout rather than white.

TIP:  I made sure to have the strips of slate mosaic run below or above where my electrical outlets were so the white covers would camouflage into the white subway background and not stand out.
