Purple/Blue Girl's Bedroom

My mom and I recently re-did my cousins Morgan's bedroom while she was on vacation!

She turned 10, and her room needed an update for her age.  She had lots of pink and purple in her room previously, and since she's a bit of a tom-boy we didn't want the color scheme to be too girly.

[before]

Our biggest surprise to her was the sliding barn door.  She already had a small door in the corner that goes to a small finished attic space used as a playroom that her dad built.  We thought it would be so cool to have a door that hides it like a secret passageway.

Morgan picked out her bedding, which had lots of black, gray, and purple tones.  We based the room off of that and added some sparkle here and there.

She requested that we paint some circles on the wall with different colors, so we made a wall that looks as if we splashed circles of different sizes across it!

Some of the circles are mirrors attached with 3M stickies, and a few are zebra decals, and a couple are pizza pans used as magnet boards.

We made the sliding barn door out of a 30" flat hollow-core wood door from HomeDepot with a sliding door track attached to a painted 2x6.  She already had a guitar that we hung on a wall guitar display hanger.

The chandelier and mirror are from Hobby Lobby

The window treatment is hung higher, close to the ceiling, to make the window look larger, the ceiling look higher, and to act as a headboard.

We also got a plexiglass shelf from cb2.com for her books she reads before bed.

There are hooks on the wall by her door for her backpack and jackets.

NURSERY

I've finally got the photos of the finished nursery all together!
Here is the revealing of Greta Mae Kersten's future space!

This room used to be my studio and was already painted white with one orange accent wall.  We moved the Flor carpet squares from our living room into the nursery and got a new cushier rug for the living room.  The crib is from Amazon.com (Baby Letto Hudson 3 in 1 convertible crib in white), Curtains are fabric from IKEA that I hemmed, and the Chevron Bedding & sheep rocker are from Pottery Barn Kids.  The quilt was a gift made by my friend Kristen!  I decided since the colors were all gender neutral, the girl needed something girlie!  So I made her the silver branch mobile with crystals hanging from it for some sparkle & bling.

We hung baskets that I got from cb2 a while back on the wall as book holders at a lower level for her to reach.  The side table was a plywood project I built in college, the teal lamp is from Crate & Barrel, and the dachshund night light is from 2modern.com (OFFI pet lamp in white).

The banner of her name was made by a friend, Victoria Luhrs, for a baby shower my best friend threw me.  Victoria sells all kinds of printed party items on her etsy shop.

This is an old dresser my parents had in their storage room forever.  It used to be brown wood that was very worn down and scratched up.  I painted it flat grey and sanded around the edges and over the burly wood detail in the center of the top drawer.  I put the original knobs back on and lined the drawers with wrapping paper that I liked.

The closet was already painted orange and we added the chunky white floating shelves ourselves a while back.  They were designed with the plan of hanging clothes beneath the lower one for this very purpose.  The dresser is my husband's childhood dresser with new knobs for a facelift.

The tall white bookshelf is from West Elm, the bright-colored animal cube boxes in it are from Amazon.com (3 Sprouts Storage Boxes), and the changing pad cover is from BuyBuyBaby (Skip Hop Treetop).

My friend Megan hand-made this crocheted wiener dog for me!  The mason jar is decorated by my mom for a baby shower and is filled with advice and notes friends wrote to me.

This necklace was also hand-made by a neighbor who makes awesome jewelry.  She put Greta's name on it with a decorated pearl and even made a tiny pearl bracelet for Greta!

Pine Dresser Face-lift

My husband had this pine dresser from his childhood home that we decided to re-use for the baby's nursery.  I decided not to paint it yet [one- because we've got so many other projects going on right now that I didn't feel like it, two- I couldn't decide what color to paint it yet anyway, white, grey, teal..., and three- because I think it will cute with just the updated knobs in the spot I have for it right now]

 [after]

It was just an easy update that took me 5 minutes to switch out the knobs for!  I bought knobs that I liked in pairs at Anthropologie a while back in hopes of using them for this dresser.  I just got all different styles and patterns, but in coordinating colors of aqua blue.  I usually see what kinds of knobs they have on sale and even if I don't know what I'm going to do with them yet, I'll buy them marked down for future use.  They just have the cutest stuff you can't find anywhere else!

Grey & Yellow Nursery

I am so excited to share Brighton & Violets' adorable grey/yellow Nursery with you!

Aren't these twin girlies just the cutest little things?
[Left =Violet, Right= Brighton]

Their awesome crafty momma, Melissa, painted wood letters from Michael's black and hung them on the wall with 3M stickies.  She also used left over fabric scraps in old-fashioned wood cross-stitch loops hung on a tiny nail.  She made the fabric bird mobiles too; using a tutorial much like this one. You can download the free pattern here!  Melissa also made the framed family tree illustrations in the background of mom and dad's side of the family with the girls.  She was inspired by Rifle Paper Co.'s Personalized Stationary.  She did the drawings and watercolor herself!

These are the oh-so-cute wall book holders her mom sewed from Melissa's fabrics (some Dwell Studio, from Calico Corners) and hung on double curtain rods!  The cute framed artwork above them is an illustration from the artist Aled Lewis.

Pause for some play time...

Melissa & Jeremy previously had the long dresser and painted it a mustard yellow to match the fabrics.  The cribs are from Nebraska Furniture Mart and the glider is from Babies R Us.  The walls were custom screen printed by The City Girl Farm! Her mom also sewed the bed skirts, pillow, and curtains.

One last look at those cute personalized vignettes above the girls' beds!  I love the shadows of the birds on the wall.

Nothin' like ending a day of photo-shoots with some outdoor swinging!

Too cute.
